Winona Longee

Winona Mae Longee, 98, of Wapato, WA died Monday, August 26, 2019, at home surrounded by family. Winona was born on May 24,1921 in Poplar, MT to Herman and Nettie Winn. She was an enrolled member of the Assiniboine Sioux Tribe, Fort Peck Indian Nation. Winona worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs on seven different Reservations in North Dakota, Montana, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. She was a life member of the American Legion as well as the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She loved being with family, friends and loved ones. Winona enjoyed trips to numerous Casino’s and was an avid Mariner’s fan. She enjoyed entertaining at home celebrating all Holidays and family occasions with an abundance of food and laughter. She was the undisputed family champ in all the card games. Her greatest joy was to be with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. She was beloved by family, friends and acquaintances. Winona is survived by her daughter, Linda “Mimi” (Ron) Dobrauc: Grandchildren, Kristy Dobrauc, Louis (Leanna) Longee III, Nettie (Richard) Dionne, Nikki (Jay) Thompson, Mike (Lynette) Longee, Kim Yallup, Jenece (Everett) Howe and Jackie (Wilbur) Eng; 32 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren; sister Maggie Lozar along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; Louis Longee Sr., son Louis H. Longee Jr., Daughters-in-law; Luana Longee and Jean Longee, grandchildren, Alan Longee, Twins Gary and Suzanne Longee; sister Martha Hall and brothers George and Bud Winn. Visitation will be at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 28, 2019, with the rosary beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Valley Hills Funeral home in Wapato, WA . Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2019, at Saint Peter Claver Catholic Church in Wapato, WA. Interment at Terrace Heights Memorial Park in Yakima, WA. Reception to follow at the “VFW” 118 S. 5th Ave, Yakima, WA. The family would like to express sincere Thank you’s to Dr. Rex Queampts, Dr. Gabriel Lascar, Jennifer & Karen. Valley Hills Funeral Home in Wapato has been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Winona’s name to Hospice at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital or the Yakima Humane Society in care of Valley Hills Funeral Home, 218 W 3rd Street, Wapato, WA 98951.
