William Winks Winnier, 48, died accidently on July 4th, 2019 in Toppenish. He was born on March 3, 1971 in Toppenish, son of Moses S. Winnier and Lucy Smartlowit Winnier.
William attended Wapato High School. He was an emergency fire fighter for BIA Fire Management. He loved to cook and clean for family members. He learned how to make medicine bags and he would give them to family and friends. He was generous, loving, and thoughtful.
Winks loved the Lord. He was a member of the White Swan Shaker Church and was recommitted through baptism at Together Church. He loved his family and friends with all his heart and he would tell you he loved you everytime he saw you. He loved cheering for his grand kids and their basketball games, especially his Howe grandkids. He was a big Wapato Wolves fan. He loved listening to music. He would help without being asked.
William is survived by his sisters Susan and Denise Winnier, numerous uncles, aunties, cousins, nephews, nieces, and grandchildren. Predeceased by grandparents William and Dora Winnier and Gilbert and Annie Smartlowit, parents Moses and Lucy Winnier, brothers Vaughn and Darren Winnier, sisters Luana Longee, Valarie Winnier Hannigan, Mavis Winnier Washsise, and Sarah Dee Winnier.
A dressing service will be held on Friday, July 5, 2019 at 3pm, at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Wapato. Overnight services begin at 7pm at Independent Shaker Church. Open denomination service. Morning service is on Sat. July 6th at 9am, burial at 10am at 1910 Shaker Church Cemetery.
