William Copner

William Leslie Copner, 93, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2014 from liver cancer and dementia at Cottage in the Meadow. William was born April 22, 1921 in Spokane, Washington to Oscar and Opal Copner. He was living in South Cle Elum, WA at the time he met Margaret Heide whom he married in 1953. He had 2 daughters, Janice and Judy and Margaret had 2 daughters, Jeanette and Shirley. They moved to Yakima in 1957 where he worked. His last job was working for Decoto Aircraft as a machinist from where he retired in 1985. Bill loved fishing especially in Alaska, his hobby was trains. He loved reading about them and watching movies with trains. He ran the Milwaukee Railroad Bunk House in South Cle Elum about 10 years. In his younger years he was a deep sea diver and a scuba diver. He met no strangers, loved talking to anyone. He liked doing things and helping people. In 1955 he became a member of Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall. Bill is survived by his brother: Robert Copner of Port Townsend; 3 daughters, Jeanette Goodwin and Shirley Copner of Yakima, Janice White of Kennewick. 7 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Copner, his daughter Judy Kluth and his parents Oscar and Opal Copner as well as his 2 sisters Anita and Bonnie. A memorial service will be held at the Quail Meadow Kingdom Hall, 21 Quail Meadow Lane, Selah, WA at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 10, 2015. Online tributes to Bill can be left at www.valleyhillsfh.com.
