Wayne (Ozzie) Leroy Oswalt, age 88 died peacefully the afternoon of August 27, 2015 in the presence of his wife and children.
Wayne attended school in Zillah, WA. After serving in the U.S. Army, Wayne married Katherine Shields in 1949. Wayne and Katie have been married 66 years. After completing barber school, Wayne opened “Ozzies Barbershop” in Zillah, WA. He loved being a part of the Zillah community and was a member of many clubs and organizations. Wayne served as a volunteer fireman for 32 years. In 2000 the community chose Wayne as the Community Day parade Grand Marshall. He was recognized for his dedication to making Zillah a special place to live and raise families.
While Wayne’s commitment to serving was evident, nothing took priority over supporting his children and grandchildren. Wayne routinely attended the kids’ sports and other events and never allowed work, weather, or bad roads stop his attendance. Throughout his life Wayne was known as an avid Zillah Leopards fan.
Wayne enjoyed music and played drums for several bands. He especially enjoyed German music. He was an active member of Zillah Resurrection Church and served on the church council for many years. During his retirement Wayne became an avid Seahawk, Mariner, and Gonzaga sports fan.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Lizzie Oswalt, step parent Keith Morris, son Ronald Oswalt and daughter-in-law Sue Lanning Oswalt.
Wayne is survived by his wife Katherine Oswalt, son Donald Oswalt of Yakima, daughters Karen Hollowell (Greg) and Marianne Bounds (Randy) of Zillah, grandchildren Nicolas Oswalt of Yakima, Sara Hollowell of Yakima, Cody Bounds of Yakima and Carson Bounds of Zillah.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 6 pm Wednesday, September 2, 2015 with visitation from 4-7 pm at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday September 3, 2015 at Resurrection Catholic Church in Zillah at 11 am with committal following at the Zillah cemetery.
