Walter Holmes

Walter Lee Holmes, born to Cleo Holmes and Bessie Holmes(Tulee) on August 1st, 1944, in Toppenish Washington. Raised in Satus, educated in New Mexico as Body & Fender repair and later attending Police Academy where he achieved marksmanship awards. Having committed thirty plus years of service to the Yakama Nation in various roles, including: Gate Guard, Game Warden and Range Management. Walter met the love of his life, Doris Bos, and they were married on February 27th, 1965. Together they managed a ranch, running one hundred plus cattle in their time. Walter was passionate about the outdoors, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and berry picking, his secondary home being the mountains. In his leisure time he enjoyed rebuilding cars. His love of vehicles began in his youth, when he travelled to Oregon to participate in drag racing events. Later in life, Walter enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren as they came. Preceded in death by his parents, his granddaughter Evelyn Holmes and his wife. Walter is survived by his children: Lori Holmes, Lynda (Tammy), Susan, Phillip, Jason (Jennifer), Daniel (Alice/Jaime), and Adam (April). As well as his grandchildren: Ethan, Devin, Abby, Ariel, Skylar, Eryn, Joylynn, Madison, Juma, Katelyn, Robert, Amenda Josephine (AJ), Lucas and Kyle. Walter passed peacefully on March 3rd, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones. The family invites you to attend Dressing Services on Friday, March 8, 2024 at 10:00am at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah.
