Voitto Korkalo

Voitto (Korky) Korkalo (88) passed away peacefully on Nov 18, 2013 at the Emerald Care Center. He was born to Evert and Elsie Korkalo on Dec 21st, 1924 in New York Mills, Minnesota. He moved with his family to Tieton as a young child and was a part of the last graduating class of Tieton High School in 1944. He received his certification and diploma in radio and electronics in 1949. He joined the Army in 1950 and served in active duty until 1952, he was discharged from active reserve duty in 1956. Afterwards, he spent many years repairing radios and televisions. He lived in Long Beach, WA for many years until retiring and spent his days there fishing around the area. Due to failing health, he recently moved back to the Yakima Valley. He is preceded in death by his parents Evert and Elsie Korkalo, a brother Jalmer Korkalo and sister Elsie Wellington. He is survived by his brother Henry Korkalo of San Francisco, a sister Lela (Steve) Hansen, nephew Bill Wellington, nieces LeeAnn Wellington-Smith, Christiane (Ben) Hayes, and Emily (David) Greenough, great nephews Chad and Sean Smith, Zachary Hayes, Charlie Greenough and a great niece Ryane Hayes.
