Vivian Lorraine McLean passed away peacefully at Cottage in the Meadows in Yakima on June 11th, 2017. She was 85. Vivian was preceded in death by her husband Jerold A. McLean, her son Steven R. McLean, Granddaughter Jody N. McLean, and Granddaughter Grace L. Jenkins. She is survived by her sister Barbara (Bill) Hartinger, brother Gale Sorenson, brother Stan (Wanda) Sorenson, daughter Sandra (Phillip) Truell, son Scott (Lilli) Mclean, daughter Sherri (Darren) Balam, thirteen Grandchildren, numerous Great Grandchildren, and quite a few nieces and nephews.
Vivian was born on May 21st, 1932 in Tieton, WA to Orville and Golda Sorenson. She attended school in Tieton and Cowiche, Wa. She married Jerold Mclean on Christmas day of 1948 in Tieton. After a very short time living In Hoquiam, Jerry and Viv lived in the Cowiche-Tieton area until Vivian moved to Yakima 7 years ago.
Vivian worked for Snokist Growers for over 60 years, beginning as a teenager at the old Tieton Blue Ribbon plant. She was still running the crew at the Naches plant until she was 80. Vivian served on the Highland school board for quite a few years and was very active in the booster club with her husband as well. Jerry and Viv could usually be found watching their children and grandchildren at local sporting events and coached youth sports as well. Vivian was a den mother and active in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. She was there for whatever fundraiser or activity her family was involved with at the time. Vivian was also known for her cooking. She always cooked on the weekend like a platoon of Marines might be stopping. With friends of her children and assorted relatives it sometimes looked that way. Vivian would make over 20 pies at times for Thanksgiving and so much candy at Christmas it was hard to believe. This was besides a huge family dinner.
She will be missed for her strength, compassion, and love of family but can now be reunited with her passed loved ones. Without a doubt, she will still be watching her beloved Mariners and talking about fishing, hunting, and camping with Steve and Jerry.
Burial will be at Terrace Heights Memorial Park on June 30th at 10:00am. At Vivian’s request, there will be no formal funeral.
