Vivian “Babs” George
Vivian Babs George of Wapato passed away April 30, 2018 in Yakima. She was born in Rock Creek on May 30, 1948 to Gus George and Susan (Billy) George. She attended school at Goodnoe Hills and Goldendale School District and graduated as a Goldendale Timberwolve, class of 1966.
She went to Dallas, Texas to get a clerical certificate. She has also received multiple degrees from Heritage College, YVCC and her Master’s from the University of Washington. Go Dawgs! She has worked a lifetime of jobs in the youth programs, health fields, bartender, museum, Tribal School, environmental program, voc rehab and judicial services. She was currently serving her second term on the Yakama Nation Tribal Council.
She spent many years as a baby and youth age at Celilo Falls and Cold Spring’s with her elder’s. She traveled with her mother and sister’s to many pow-wows throughout North America, played softball and basketball for many year’s with siblings, nieces and nephews. In the latter years, she traveled to many tournaments to support her daughter’s and grandchildren. She was a very active grandmother to many and will be missed. She was an avid fan of the Seattle Seahawks, 12th Man. Go Hawks!
She is survived by her granddaughter Karoline “Koo” Billy and two grandsons Deon ”Boy” and Dwayne Moon Billy, all of Wapato. She had assisted in raising many of her niece’s, nephews and grandchildren from the George, Billy, Hawk and Shike families. Babs was preceded in death by her daughter’s Caroline “Scoo” Smartlowit and Jessica Smartlowit, her grandson, sisters and brothers.
Dressing services will be at 9:00 am on Wednesday May 2, 2018 at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah, Washing, with overnight services at Toppenish Lognhouse and sunrise burial at Pine Creek Cemetary at Roosevelt, Washington.
