Vivian De La Rosa

Vivian Peters De la Rosa of Toppenish passed away June 10, 2016 at her home. She was born in Pendleton, OR. Vivian grew up the first part of her years in the Gibbon and Pendleton area. She attended school in Pendleton High School. The family moved to Los Angeles for a short time and then to Arizona. Richard her father moved the family back to Pendleton and would then find a house within the Toppenish area where she lived, raised her kids and would find the love of her life Andy De la Rosa. Vivian was accomplished in many areas. She was a licensed Beautician and an avid seamstress working side by side with her Mother, Rosie, to create Pow wow regalia, clothing for her children and other family members, and then to create Native American designed clothing that would be recognized all over the United States through her own private fashion shows. Her fashion shows were all over the NW, SW with a grand finale in Las Vegas. Her clothing can be seen on people all over the United State and includes jackets that are worn by Wayne Newton and Chuck Norris. She was a Traditional Women’s Buckskin dancer. Her moccasins have left footprints all over the United States. She was a Para-pro working within all of the Toppenish schools and children. She also served on the JOM and NIEA committee’s representing all of her schools and the children she so dearly loved throughout the northwest. Vivian worked with her mother and Aunts to create some of the greatest talent shows to raise money to build a new Katari Hall at the St. Andrews Catholic Church in Mission Oregon. She was instrumental in creating the costumes, finding and encouraging family and community members to be involved with the talent show. Vivian could also be seen in many of the acts throughout the shows each year. She was a talented dancer, singer, and choreographer. Vivian loved her family very much and would become a caregiver to the man she married and loved with all her heart. The two were inseparable and would be seen together throughout the tribal community involved in making fry bread, assisting with funding events and attending their kids and grandkids events. Together they were also very involved with the local Eagles group where Andy was an officer. Vivian was by his side make sure they attend the Eagles events, meetings and watched all of the Seahawks games cheering them on with their Seahawk jerseys and hats on. She is survived by her husband, Andy De la Rosa of Toppenish; sons, Les Peters of Lakewood, CA, Ryan Peters of Wapato, Richard De la Rosa of Toppenish, and James De la Rosa of Toppenish; and brother, Gary Peters of Brownstown. Dressing and Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 3pm on Sunday, June 12, 2016 at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am on Monday June 13, 2016 at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Mission, OR. Burial will follow at St. Andrews Cemetery.
