On Friday, January 19th, 2024, Virginia Mary Abbenhaus Ice Walker, beloved matriarch of her family, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 in Yakima, WA. She was born on March 12th, 1930, in Mancelona, MI to William Edmond Abbenhaus, Sr and Laura Margaret (Arment) Abbenhaus. Virginia and her family moved to Prosser, WA in 1935. She graduated from Prosser Senior High School and was the president and salutatorian of her senior class.
Virginia married Carrol Douglas Ice in 1948. They had their son William in 1952. After an extended illness, Doug passed away in 1955. Virginia married Leonard Lester Walker in 1956. Together they had 5 children: Denise, Barbara, Alicia (stillborn), Kyle and Royce. They lived in Prosser, Seattle, Colfax, and then moved to the Yakima area in 1964.
Virginia was loved by everyone who knew her. Virginia was a very good cook and loved to bake. She enjoyed traveling, and also collected lighthouses and elephants. One of her favorite sayings was, “Faith, Family, and Friends”. She was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, American Legion Auxiliary, Yakima Republican Women’s Club, The Quorum Parliamentary Unit, and Terrace Heights Federated Women’s Club.
She is survived by her son William Herbert Ice and wife JoAnn of Henderson, NV, her daughter Denise Ellene (Walker) Vogel and husband René of Snohomish, WA, her son Kyle Robert Walker and wife Sara of Huntington Beach, CA; grandchildren Bryan Ice, Angela Wolfe, Patrick Vogel, Cassandra Hurd, Kirstine Walker, Kylie Walker, Jackson Walker, Henry Walker, James Pryor, Benjamin Briggs; 11 great-grandchildren; and 2 great great-grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her parents, brother William Edmond Abbenhaus, Jr. (1962), husband Carrol Douglas Ice (1955), husband Leonard Lester Walker (2011), stillborn daughter Alicia (1960), daughter Barbara Lynn (Walker) Pryor (1990), son Royce Lauren Walker (1996), and great-granddaughter Tylee Carmen Briggs. (2023).
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm, with the Rosary at 6 pm, on Friday, February 16th, 2024, at Valley Hills Funeral Home, 2600 Business Lane, Yakima, WA 98901. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 17th, 2024, at 9:30 AM at St Joseph Catholic Church, 212 N Fourth St, Yakima, WA 98901. Graveside service and burial to follow at Terrace Heights Memorial Park, 3001 Terrace Heights Dr, Yakima, WA 98901.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Girls State/ American Legion Auxiliary, legion-aux.org; Wellness House, wellness-house.org. Virginia’s family thanks Shepherd’s Gate Adult Family Home, which provided excellent and loving care to her for over 10 years.
