Virginia Mae Ford, 77 years old of Selah, WA, died peacefully at home on Thursday, January 12, 2017.
Virginia was born on August 28, 1939 in Summit Arkansas. She later moved with her family to the Yakima Valley. That is where Mom and Dad met and on October 4, 1958, she married Eugene Ford at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grandview, WA. Following their marriage, they lived in Seattle, WA where their first child Eileen was born. In January 1960, Gene and Virginia relocated to Basin City, WA where they farmed in Block 20 of the Columbia Basin Project. This is where their son Mark and daughter Diana were born. In 1969 they moved to Hermiston, OR and then relocated to Yakima, WA in 1971.
Virginia made a lot of dear and lifelong friends. One special friend was Helen Alamos whom Virginia thought of as a sister. Mom was a homemaker and spent time supporting her kids in their hobbies and interests, which included “Draggin the Ave” in her white station wagon all packed full of teenage girls or attending 4-H horse functions. Virginia was a fantastic cook and was well known for her homemade cinnamon rolls.
Mom spent the last 27 years of her life in a wheelchair as a paraplegic. She was determined to stay in her home and that she did until the day she passed away. She was a special, kind person with a great smile and a good wit, but look out when she got mad!
Virginia loved her family dearly and unconditionally. She cherished the visits with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as with extended family and friends. She was always there to give a listening ear or to console someone. She will be so greatly missed by all that knew her.
Virginia is survived by her three children: Eileen (Dean) Berriman, Mark (Kamy) Ford, and Diana Lange; grandchildren: Josh, Michelle, Jess, Brandon, Amanda; great grandchildren: Alexis, Zane, Creighton, Andrew, Caleb, Hunter, Hayden, and baby on the way. She is also survived by her siblings Jack, Joyel, and Kinnie.
She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene “Gene” Ford and her parents Merland and Ruth Blair.
The family wishes to give special thank yous to Larry and Carla Hull, Roy and “Shorty” Manley and Maria Mendoza. We sincerely appreciate all of you help, including watching out for Mom all these many years.
A Memorial for family and friends will be held in the Spring.
