Vic Beard passed away February 18, 2019 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Vic was surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Vic was born in Batesville Arkansas on February 21,1957 to Dale and Mary Beard. His family relocated to Yakima in 1962. Vic attended Yakima Valley schools and graduated from West Valley High School in 1976.
Vic began working for Columbia Asphalt shortly after graduating and would perfect his craft of building roads with them for the next 20 years. Vic began his career with the Yakima County Public Services in 1999 and remained there until his passing.
Vic met his future wife Bonnie Brooking in 1983, they were married July 4, 1986 in Yakima Washington. Together they have two loving daughters and four grandsons.
Vic lived every day for his family and was the hardest working man to ensure they would always be taken care of. He would put his family and friends first at all times and place his hobbies second. Vic had a passion for racing and enjoyed spending time with his fellow racing friends. In fact most vacations were planned around racing. Vic enjoyed traveling and exploring new places which often included scouting out for nearby race tracks. He especially loved the southern states and their amazing hospitality. The passionate stories he shared would spark a desire for his close friends, Deleta and Steven Sali to embark on an extended vacation in March of 2018, with Vic and Bonnie touring the state of Tennessee and New Orleans.
Vic was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer shortly after that trip. He spent the next 7 months fighting his illness with courage and determination along with the support of his family and close friends.
Vic is survived by his wife, Bonnie Beard; daughters Amanda Brooking (Tommie Gordon) and Jennifer White; four grandsons: Sonny, Nalen, Aksel, and Nikolas; his mother, Mary Beard and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Additionally, Cody Cromwell, who Vic always loved as a son.
Vic was preceded in death by his father Dale Beard; his maternal grandparents, Ina and Jessie Owens; his paternal grandparents Gladys Holloway and Elmo Beard.
The family would like to thank the doctors that cared for Vic and gave us hope, the caring nurses that tended to him especially Sarah Charlton of Yakima Virginia Mason. Long time friend Kent Patnode for always being there for him and lifting his spirits by talking racing, to Jason Enfield for working so hard to help Vic accomplish his dreams, and the many friends and family that visited Vic during his illness to help keep his spirits high. A thank you filled with gratitude to all of the Yakima County workers that helped Vic by selflessly donating time to him and making it possible for him to get to his retirement. To Deleta Sali for her life long dedicated friendship and for helping to Care for Vic during this most difficult time and giving loving support to his wife.
A very special thanks to the Sali/Enfield family for the unwavering support they have always given and the sacrifices they made to help our family in this devastating time.
Vic will be forever loved and missed.
