Vernon Jennings

In loving memory and honor of Vernon Ellis Jennings Jr., born 26 November, 1935, passed 31 July, 2013. He was born in Joplin, MO, and raised by Vivian Christine Jennings and Vernon Ellis Jennings Sr. His father being a carpenter by trade, Vernon and his parents traveled between Joplin, MO and Toppenish, WA until they permanently settled in Toppenish in 1951. Vernon attended Toppenish High School where he graduated in 1954. He then met the love of his life Juanita Cordelia Hagemeier. It was true love from the beginning and they married on 29 June, 1957. Vernon honored their marriage with absolute love and loyalty for 56 years. In 1958 Vernon was drafted into the military branch of the Army where he served for two years at Fort Lewis. This brought Vern and Cordy from Yakima, WA to Tacoma where they started their family. Vern and Cordy started their family in Tacoma in 1960 when they were blessed with the birth of their son Wendell Scott Jennings. Six years later in 1967 they were graced with the adoption of their daughter Julia Katrinia Jennings. They raised their family in University Place where they resided until their retirement in 1997. After moving to Blanchard, ID in 1997 they moved back to the Yakima area in 2002 to be closer to their family and loved ones. Vern was preceded in passing by his parents Vernon Ellis Jennings Sr. and Vivian Christine Jennings. Vern is survived by his wife Cordy Jennings, children Scott Jennings and Julie (Don) Wood, grandchildren Carley, Morgan and Kenny Wood, brother Cliff (Doris) Hagemeier, sister Doris (Tom) Wheeler and brother Robert (Mary) Hagemeier, and many nieces and nephews. Memorial services with Military Honors will held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church in Yakima, WA. Share your memories of Vern online at www.valleyhillsfh.com.
