Trudi Mae Martin (Turner), age 74, left this world on October 6, 2018 after a short battle with cancer to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Trudi was born August 4, 1944 in Bend, OR and moved with her family to the Yakima Valley in 1950. She graduated from White Swan High School in 1963 and had fond memories of spending her summers as a lifeguard at the White Swan swimming pool. In 1965 she married Donald Martin and soon after moved to Selah where she lived for 44 years until her death.
Trudi’s kind heart led her to work as an elementary Title One and recess para educator in the Selah School District for 36 years until her retirement in 2010. She often shared stories with her family about the many children she was blessed to work with each day. Trudi enjoyed following politics and world events closely and spent many hours tending to her yard and landscaping. She also enjoyed tracking and discussing the weather and documented the colors of the seasons in pictures each year. She always confessed to having her “Daddy’s sweet tooth” and her chocolate and vanilla pudding pies were a family tradition during the holidays. Her chocolate chip cookies were second to none. Trudi had a deep love for her family and enjoyed her trips to Spokane and Bellevue to see her grandchildren’s many activities. Her other travels over the years brought her to Santiago, Chile, Canada, Florida, New Orleans, Missouri, Southern California and around the Pacific Northwest.
Trudi is survived by her sons Kyle Martin (Heather) of Bellevue, Kent Martin (Laura) of Spokane; her four grandchildren: Trey, Josh, Luke and Lexi; and sisters Tana Burkhart and Terri Spencer. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert Turner and Louise Turner (Schaffner).
Her family wishes to express thanks to the staff at Cottage in the Meadow for their tender care during her final days. At her request, no public services will be held and instead the family will celebrate her life in a private gathering.
