Traci Matsumura

October 3, 1962 — October 17, 2015

Traci Anne Matsumura (Doll) went home to be with her Lord the morning of Oct. 17, 2015 after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer and related complications. Traci demonstrated courage, strength, dignity and grace with her amazing sense of humor and love of old movies and hard rock intact. Traci was born in Yakima, WA on Oct. 3, 1962 to John J. Jr. and Monzetta Doll at the Yakima Osteopathic Hospital. She attended Selah and East Valley schools, after which she worked at various restaurants including Denny’s, where she met the love of her life, Mike Matsumura. They had 26 years together. Traci returned to college and earned her degree in occupational therapy specializing in geriatrics. Following graduation she worked approximately 10 years beginning as a therapist and eventually becoming director of rehabilitation at Good Samaritan Health Care Center. She worked at various facilities for the next 11 years developing therapy programs. The last 3 years of her career were spent at Landmark Care & Rehab as a clinician doing patient care, her first love, practicing her patients first philosophy until the end. Traci is survived by her husband Michael Matsumura, daughter Ashley who was her primary caregiver during her illness and in so doing demonstrated an amazing combination of skill, determination, care, loving and compassion like no one else. She is also survived by her son B. Alan Devoir, mother Monzetta Doll, without whose help we never would have made it, sister Brenda (Richard) Sweet, uncle Ben McInroy (Connie), aunt Marilyn (Dick) Farris, uncles Mark (Sandy) and Jim Doll, grandfather John A. Doll Sr., nephew Matthew Kuribayashi, niece Brianna Kuribayashi, great nephew William, numerous cousins, and Yoshi. She was preceded in death by her father John J. Doll Jr., daughter Mandy Zola Marie, grandparents Ben and Zola McInroy, grandmother Madge Doll, and aunt Bobbie Fisher. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at North Star Lodge and the nursing staff at Yakima Regional and Yakima Memorial hospitals, and Cottage in the Meadow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 31st, at 11:00AM at Our Lady Of Lourdes (1112 W Fremont Ave., Selah). In lieu of flowers, Traci requested that donations be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Valley Hills Funeral Home is caring for the family.
