It is with great sadness that the family of Todd Cooney announces his passing after a long battle with liver disease. Although a less than average life span, Todd did not live an average life. He traveled where he wanted to travel, laughed inappropriately at every chance, learned what he wanted to learn, fixed what he wanted to fix and loved who he wanted to love.
Todd grew up in the Nile Valley near Naches, WA. and graduated from Naches High School in 1988. He lived his whole life in Washington and Oregon where he made many friends along the way and touched many lives. Although a very private person, his close friendships were very special and meaningful to him. Past memories were very important to him and he was very sentimental about them.
His proudest accomplishment and the apple of his eye was his beautiful daughter, Alexa Grace. His wish for her was to be happy and succeed in life. Most of Todd’s career was spent in the plumbing industry, although he was very proud of attending Perry Technical Institute where he received his degree in medical coding. He enjoyed reading about history, watching TV, fishing, hunting, camping, and playing golf. He also liked Nascar (his favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt), football and soccer. His competitive nature included bantering back and forth with his friends over whose team would beat the other. There were always bets that led to embarrassing moments such as having to wear the opposing team’s shirt.
Although he didn’t attend WSU, he was always an avid supporter of all their athletic teams and always sported Cougar gear. Go Cougs! Todd truly enjoyed being around little children, teasing and playing with them. He was also a lifelong fan of Star Wars.
You had to know Todd to understand his sense of humor. His sister, Kelli, was the brunt of many of his childhood pranks. She can laugh about it now, but at the time it made her pretty mad. Kelli, of the ever-compassionate heart, forgave him each time which made their relationship stronger as brother and sister. She always knew that Todd had her back.
His closest childhood friend, Paul Reese, was always there for Todd through the good and the bad.
Todd’s family will be forever grateful to Paul for his care and support over the years.
Most recently he lived with his girlfriend, Marna Boatright, who supported him through thick and thin and brought much laughter and joy into his life. With a smirk on his face, he would say “she is the one who is mean to me” and she would reply, “Toddler, you’re such a stinker!” Many thanks to Marna’s family members who treated Todd as part of their family.
Todd was preceded in death by his grandparents (Walt & Bertha Nelson and Lyle & Almamae Cooney) and his son, Ian Allen Cooney, who died at birth.
Todd will be sadly missed by his father- Chet Cooney (Karen), mother- Bette Cooney (Larry Fewkes), daughter- Alexa Grace Cooney, and sister- Kelli Dyan Cooney, including aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Todd’s family extends their heartfelt thanks to the health-care professionals at Cedar Hills
Adult Family Care Facility, Virginia Mason Memorial, and Memorial Hospice for their care and commitment for Todd over the past few months. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Rest in peace, Todd. May the force be with you!
