Thomas Wheeler

Thomas H. Wheeler, died peacefully on September 2, 2015. He was 82 years old. Tom was born to Gerald & Rita Wheeler, August 20, 1933 in Yakima, Washington. Tom grew up on the family farm in Union Gap, helping on the dairy farm. Tom was the middle child of three children; younger brother of Rosanne, older brother to Logan. Tom graduated from Yakima High School in 1953 & in September of 1954 he enlisted in the United States Army, serving at Schofield Barracks, on the island of Oahu, Honolulu, HA. Tom was very good at sports, & he played all through his high school years. He played baseball as well as football at YVC before enlisting in the Army. Once enlisted, he continued to play baseball & football in the Army while stationed at Schofield Barracks. Upon leaving the Army in 1956, Tom began his life long career at Rosser & Sutton, selling office supplies. In 1961, Tom married Doris Hagemeier & in 1962 they were blessed with their first son, Thomas H. III. In 1966, they were again blessed with the birth of their son Brian. During the late 60’s & into the 70’s Tom coached his sons in sports, as well as being a part of the Dowdy pit crew. Tom very much enjoyed attending his sons sporting events & once the grandchild came along, he got to enjoy attending their sporting events as well. Tom was a family man through and through and in his later years, he enjoyed taking his entire family on a vacation once a year. His last vacation he took his family to Honolulu. While in Honolulu, Tom had his son Tommy take him back to Schofield Barracks so he could see one more time his Army home. In 2003 Tom retired from Rosser & Sutton. Once retired he rarely missed coffee with his group of friends he made in his school & high school years, friendships of which lasted a lifetime. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald & Rita Wheeler, his sister Rosanne & his brother Logan. Tom is survived by his wife of 54 years, Doris, his sons, Tom (Kaylene) & Brian. He had four grandchildren, Amanda, Kendra, Brandon, & Brooke. He also had three step-grandchildren & a special step-granddaughter, Aria. Tom is also survived by his little dog, Lolo. Funeral services will be held at Grace of Christ Presbyterian Church (formerly First Presbyterian) Tuesday, September 8th at 1:00 PM.
