Thomas Newell

February 3, 1935 — April 11, 2022

Thomas R. Newell Thomas R. Newell, was born in Northwest Montana in 1935, and passed away at home on April 11, 2022. He was the son of Robert & Anna Newell. Tom was a best friend, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and cousin. He leaves behind a legend of love, happiness and friendship to all. His favorite things included teaching; especially music, history, and reading. He taught high school band at East Valley High School and later served as its Vice-Principal before becoming the Vice-Principal at the Juneau-Douglas High School in Alaska. He was an avid bird hunter, conservationist and bird watcher. He believed in empowering youth through the Boy Scouts of America, where he served in various capacities, including as a member of the Executive Boards of both the Alaska and Washington State Scouts. He was also a life member of the Yakima Elks, having played early on in the Elks band. Tom leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years, Gail; a son Robert and daughter-in-law Brenna; as well as grandchildren Maia and Zackary. He also leaves a brother William, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A special thanks is extended to the University of Washington Heart Clinic. We will forever be grateful for the special care provided by Dr. Daniel Fishbein and his staff enabling us to share an extra 22 years of happiness together. Please join us Friday May 27, 2022 for a Celebration of Life at St. Paul's Cathedral in Yakima, Wa. Service will start at 10am.
