Theresa Wolters
Theresa (Tietje Elzinga) Wolters, 79, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, March 12, 2015. Theresa was born in Lioessens, FR, The Netherlands on August 28, 1935. On March 13, 1958, Theresa married her lifelong husband, Edward Wolters. They immigrated in May of 1958 to America. Theresa devoted herself to her husband and family. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were her life each in their own special way.
Theresa was a lifelong member of the Christian Reformed Church. She loved helping out with the quilting projects at the church and knitting scarves and hats for the Union Gospel Mission. She also spent ten years volunteering at the Sunnyside Christian Thrift Store. She spent many years taking care of her grandchildren. She also loved to garden, bake and sew. She enjoyed many trips back to the The Netherlands to see her family. After being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, her world became smaller and even though communication became difficult, listening to hymns was a source of comfort for her.
Theresa is survived be her loving husband of 57 years, Edward Wolters of Zillah, who was her constant companion and faithful caregiver; her six children, Agnes (Franklin) Bestebreur of Zillah, John Wolters of Fallon, NV, Thelma (Gene) Vanden Berg of Spokane, Larry (Jean) Wolters of Prosser, Sylvia (Gilbert) Newhouse of Granger, Nancy (Chad) Buckles of Prosser. She also leaves behind sixteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She is also survived by her five sisters, Annie, Rudi, Grade, Tineke and Thea, all of The Netherlands. She was preceded in death by her parents Jan and Tryntje Elzinga, her sisters, Sippie and Jikke.
We want to thank the staff of the Toppenish Community Hospital ICU for their patient, kind and tender loving care they gave to mom and the entire family. Room 306 is forever grateful.
