Sylvia Smith

April 16, 1938 — January 17, 2017

Sylvia (Tooney) Ingeborg Smith was born in Seattle to Ormond and Bernice Smith on April 16, 1938. Tooney graduated from Yakima High School in 1956. She spent her career in the medical field, working at Memorial Hospital in Yakima, Providence Hospital in Seattle, and for over 20 years at Toppenish Community Hospital. Tooney had a great love of singing. She was a faithful and enthusiastic member of Bel Canto of Yakima for 55 years. During her early years with Bel Canto, she had the pleasure of sharing the stage with her mother Bernice. Her last Bel Canto concert was in early Dec. 2016. For the last 15 years, Tooney also sang with the Zillah Community Choir. She loved that her brother Ray also sang in the choir for many years. She was a very talented artist and was generous in sharing pictures and cartoons. She would send birthday cards called “Tooney Creations” with funny drawings and humorous captions. Tooney had a fantastic sense of humor and an independent spirit. She loved animals. Her last pet was a dear dachshund named “Heidi.” She is survived by her brother Dean Smith and spouse Keiji Ikezaki of Rancho Mirage, CA, sister Jackie Georges of the Tacoma area and several nieces and nephews and cousins in Washington and Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents Ormond and Bernice and brother Ray. A memorial service is being planned for a later date. Condolences can be left for the family at www.valleyhillsfh.com.
