Steven Coon

March 23, 1945 — December 8, 2015

Yakima - On December 8, 2015, after a short battle with cancer, Steven D. Coon, age 70, of Spokane peacefully passed to Heaven surrounded by loved ones. He was born on March 23, 1945 to Charles and Alma Coon. Steve was a wonderfully unique man with a gentle spirit and a zest for life that was contagious. Sharing his faith and his animated ways made us all smile. His organization skills, love for educating and learning were present in all endeavors. Since a young boy, he enjoyed the outdoors with his siblings, tending to the family garden, being active, playing instruments, meeting new people and was an all-around hard worker in everything he did. But his true passions were to coach and travel. His most recent hobbies were skiing (both water and snow) biking, swimming and pickle ball, and traveled many places doing all of them. When he was home, he spent his time at his beloved “piece of Heaven”, he called it, the lake cabin at Loon Lake. This cabin was his domain as a child too. The cabin remained a vacation spot for many memories for siblings and friends. Now, his grandchildren have memories of being tossed around on the tube every 4th of July, eating chocolate chip cookies, building campfires, or putting on Grandpa’s huge, rubber boots to ride on the lawn mower. Steve had many friends! He loved to engage in deep conversations, especially when a friend or a loved one was in need of someone to talk to. Steve was a very special man and his memory will be in our hearts for all time. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth (Ryan) Morales, grandsons Tyson and Alex, granddaughter Sophia, and baby Morales. Also surviving are his brothers, Gary (Carol) and Don (Kathy), sister Judeen Shelman, and his large extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Alma Coon. A celebration of life will be held in the Spring/Summer months at the Loon Lake cabin. The family wishes to express appreciation to the family and friends who supported and encouraged him with calls, text, emails, or visits, and loved Steve at any time during his life. What a blessing you have been to us. We’d also like to include the Cottage in the Meadow and Hospice nursing staff and Memorial Hospital in Yakima for their tender loving care. Thank you. Valley Hills Funeral Home is caring for the family.
