Stanley Vern Myles Was born in Yakima, Washington on March 16, 1941 to Harry and Jean (Blystone) Myles and both predeceased him. Stan grew up in the Cowiche Highland area on an orchard where he worked beside his family ditching trees, smudging with tires, growing and storing all their own vegetables for winter and cutting their own beef. He also flagged with his father to spray theirs and nearby orchards.
Stan graduated from Highland High, where he participated in band and football, even though he was the shortest on the squad. In the winter he loved to ice skate on the pond that the fire department made for the kids, but always got in trouble because he never seemed to get home at the proper time, “But it was worth it!”. Stan received a George Washington Scholarship for academic excellence and began attending YVC studying horticulture. He received another year but that was cut short when a dear family friend lost her husband and stan quit college to run the orchard for her.
After doing his good deed, he then owned and operated Benoit’s Seafoods for six years. He then pursued a job in the beer and wine industry for more than twenty years. After Stan and Marcie married in 1982 they both went to work for Blue Bell and Sunshine Cookies. They ran the route together until 1995 when the company filed bankruptcy. Since they had worked together for so long and enjoyed it, Stan followed Marcie into her new pursuit of flagging but due to health problems in 1998 Stan had to quit this profession. But what a blessing, because he found his real niche in life when he started dealing cards at Yakama Nation Casino and continued on to be a Floor Supervisor and that is as far as he wished to go up the ladder because he did not want to lose contact with the customers. He truly enjoyed going to work every day and in 12 ½ years he had never missed a day that was unexecuted or ever been late. Stan also enjoyed learning the Yakama native tongue and as many of their customs as he could. He made many friends with his colleagues. After retiring in 2012 he volunteered for the Yakima Greenway and Restore Shop.
He loved his pound dog who lived until 2009 (Scotty). But then he learned to love his little Yorkie, Mr. Bentley.
Stan was an avid archer for years, competing and hunting. The outdoors was his love, gardening, crossword puzzles, helping to take care of elderly neighbors whether it was fixing the shower, oven or doing outside trimming. Stan loved to go to Reno and Vegas.
Stan is survived by his brother Ron (Geraldine) Myles of Tri-Cities, Washington. His nephew David Myles of Richland and Don Myles of the North Pole. Also his daughter Cheri (Rick) Holden, Zillah and Roby of Toppenish. He and three step-children all of Yakima which he always treated like his own.
