Stanley (Gilfred) Beavan, age 82, died February 16th at his home, surrounded in love by his children.
Stan was born January 30, 1933 in Ava, Missouri at the Beavan homestead to Gilfred and Audrey Beavan. He moved to Grandview with his parents at the age of 12. He graduated from Grandview High School with the class of 1950 and married his high school sweetheart, Norma Ann Puterbaugh in 1952. They moved to California during the two years Stan was in the Army. Upon returning to Grandview, Stan and Norma Ann moved into the home in which he has lived since 1955.
Shortly thereafter, Stan, Norma Ann and her parents, Ray & Opal Puterbaugh, founded Puterbaugh Construction. Stan was the best concrete finisher around and had a great reputation for his skills and quality projects. He taught a large majority of the cement finishers in the Lower Valley the cement finishing techniques he was known for, yet no one could match his knowledge & skill. Stan really enjoyed teaching, sharing his knowledge and working on the job with son Kelley and son-in-laws, Dean and David.
Stan’s customers and colleagues held him in high regard due to his honesty and integrity. Both he and Norma Ann retired by selling the business to son Gary in 1999. For more than 60 years, Puterbaugh Construction has been a highly respected general contractor in industrial & agricultural construction.
After retirement Stan & Norma Ann spent a lot of time together at their second home in Cle Elum and enjoyed traveling the country doing research for their families’ genealogy. Norma Ann passed away in 2004 after 52 wonderful years of marriage. He always called her “His Little Dutch Girl” and never stopped missing her.
After Norma Ann’s passing, Stan took his daughters on a trip to Missouri to show them the homestead where he was born and raised, as well as many places in Missouri and Arkansas that he and Norma Ann had visited & enjoyed in the past. He later took his son, Gary, on the same trip. His kids will forever remember their vacation with their dad and the special times they’ve spent with him over the years.
Stan was preceded in death by: his parents, first wife Norma Ann, and son, Kelley Beavan. He is survived by: his second wife, Marjorie of Chandler, Arizona; children; Gary Beavan (Greg Sheets) of Yakima, Terri White (Dave) of Grandview and Vicki Banker (Dean) of Prosser, eight grandchildren, Tiffani Rowland (Cole), Andy White (Erin), Luke White (Christina), Shyla & Shelly Banker, Caressa Keller, Breanna Barnes (Nathan) & Brittney Beavan (David). He is also survived by great-grandsons Jackson and Ryan Rowland & Bryson Gold and great-granddaughters Makenzie Eden, Gabrianna Keller & April Davis and his canine companion, Daphne, who loved and kept him company to the end.
The family credits the extended time they had with their father to his excellent caregiver—Tish Galvan who always referred to Stan as “Boss”. She is an amazing, caring and beautiful person & will always remain a part of our family.
Viewing for family & friends will be held this Thursday, February 19th from 12:00 to 3:00 pm at Valley Hills Funeral Home, 531 South 16th Street, Sunnyside, WA, followed by burial at the Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside.
