Sidney Tuttle

August 19, 1926 — March 17, 2019

Sidney Duane Tuttle peacefully left this world and entered in to the presence of his Lord and savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, March 17th, 2019, in Sunnyside, WA. He was born to Clark and Alice Tuttle on August 19th, 1926, in Belma, WA, which was a small town between Mabton and Grandview, WA. After moving several times throughout his childhood, his family settled in Sunnyside, WA, where he eventually graduated from Sunnyside High School. Three days prior to his 18th birthday, he enlisted in the US Navy and served for two years during WWII in the Pacific theater as a Carpenter’s Mate 3rd class. He married Phyllis Felsman on March 2nd of 1951 they were married for 54 years, until she succumbed to Alzheimer’s disease. With his marriage to Phyllis, he became the step father to Gloria (Storaci) and Sharon (Odell). Much of his working career was spent working for the Northern Pacific (Burlington Northern and BNSF) Railroad as a station agent. He worked at many of the train depots throughout the Yakima valley including Grandview, Mabton, Sunnyside, Toppenish, Wapato, and Yakima. He finished his career working in Vancouver, WA, retiring in 1988. Sid was very active in his church, Sunnyside Grace Brethren church. He worked as a janitor for many years, served in both the youth and children’s ministries, served on various boards, and he would also dress as a clown and make balloon animals at various church related events. He also volunteered for nearly 40 years at the Yakima Union Gospel Mission, serving on the board of directors for a number of years during that time. Sid enjoyed camping, particularly on the Oregon coast. During his retirement, he took up quilting, making numerous baby blankets for the Union Gospel Mission. He also could be seen walking around town, often walking up to five miles a day. Sidney is survived by his two step daughters: Gloria Storaci and Sharon Odell; five grandsons: Don Dillashaw and wife Veronica, Dan Dillashaw and wife Jodi, Scott Storaci and wife Yvonne, David Storaci and wife Nicole, and Michael Storaci and wife Lisa; 13 great grandchildren: Dani Dillashaw, Jarrod Dillashaw, Taylor Storaci and wife Kate, Alex Storaci, Ben Dillashaw, Devin Dillashaw and wife Savannah, Shayla Storaci, Daylen Storaci, Jonahs Storaci, Bella Dillashaw, Courtney Storaci, Kaleb Storaci, and Helaina Storaci; and 1 great great granddaughter: Josephine Dillashaw. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 30th, at 11:00am at Sunnyside Grace Brethren Church, 703 Franklin Ave, Sunnyside, WA 98944. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Yakima Union Gospel Mission are encouraged.
