Sandra Davido

March 4, 1943 — July 8, 2014

Sandy Elkins was born in Toppenish Washington to Evelyn and Lee Elkins at Bosarth Nursing Home with a full head of dark black hair and that fiery spark in her eyes she carried throughout her life. Sandy was a storyteller, a talented writer, and a true performer singing on the radio at the age of 4 while her sister Betty played piano. Sandy graduated from Toppenish High School in 1961 and spent her life in the Yakima Valley around the Zillah and Toppenish area creating memories for her children, grandchildren and all the tag-alongs that showed up at her door throughout the years. She taught many what unconditional love, loyalty, family, and respect was all about. She was known as Sandy among her family and friends and was Aunt Sandy to many of those closest to her. She lived life with a smile that would light up the room and stunningly statuesque beauty that would turn every head when she would walk in. Her sharp wit and humor would soon have everyone laughing and singing as making friends came very easily for her. Sandy worked many jobs over the years including as a bookkeeper, a store clerk, and as a site manager for Meals on Wheels in Wapato. Sandy was a member of the Toppenish Historical Society but her favorite job was being a loyal wife to her husband George of nearly 48 years and a wonderful mother and grandma to her children and grandchildren. She loved working in her yard with her cats, dogs and chickens running freely on what she always called "God's Little Acre" near Buena. Sandy lost a piece herself when her son Steve died tragically in 1984, but her dedication and perseverance kept her going and she never lost sight of the important things in life always finding her "little treasures" on the beaches and shops around the Northwest. Sandy didn't take no for an answer (just ask her husband George) and failure was never an option for her or those she loved. Those left to celebrate and remember her life include her husband George, her son Sean Davido, Teresa Anaya-Davido, grandchildren Anthony and Loren Davido, Jennifer and Adrian Van Wyk and great grandson Steven Van Wyk, daughter-in-law Izumi Hallet and her family, Nephew Bob & Susan Lester, brother and sister in-laws Bob Davido and Carolyn Wishaar and niece Regan McClure, many cousins and all those tag-alongs that became part of her family as well. Sandy passed away at her family home as she had always wished on July 8, 2014 to join her Mama, Daddy, Tito, baby brother Arlo, and son Stevie. She will never be forgotten by those who loved her. Viewing will be Monday July 14, 2014 from 10-12 with services at 1 pm at Valley Hills Funeral home in Zillah with burial following at the Zillah Cemetery.
