Obituary

Samuel Garcia, 74, of Prosser, Washington, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026. Samuel was born in Mission, Texas, to Erasmo and Guadalupe Garcia. In 1958, his family moved to Satus near Granger. The family worked in farm laboring in various places before eventually settling in Sunnyside.

Some of his fondest childhood memories were the summers spent picking strawberries with his family in Stanwood, Mt. Vernon and Lynden. From a very young age Samuel worked in the fields and drove truck for various farms. He later spent many years with Monson Cattle Company and ultimately retired from Baker Commodities in 2015.

On October 28, 1978, Samuel married, Teresa Mendez, in Sunnyside. They made their home in Grandview for many years before moving to a small ranch on the outskirts of Prosser.

Samuel loved hosting bonfires and barbecues for family and friends. He was an avid football fan who proudly cheered for the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, taking scenic drives with loved ones, and especially cherished camping trips — with Ohanapecosh at Mt. Rainier holding a special place in his heart. A lifelong music lover, he favored the sounds of the 60s and 70s. Samuel made friends easily and kept many of those friendships throughout his life.

He was deeply loved by his family and will be missed beyond measure.

Samuel is preceded in death by his parents, Erasmo and Guadalupe Garcia; his brothers Hector, Erasmo Jr., and Raul; his sister Eva Lopez; his loving wife, Teresa Garcia; his step son Edelmiro ‘Eddie’ Vela and his nephews Jesse Acosta Jr. and Jacob Mitchell Garcia.

He is survived by his daughters Yvonne Seyler (Mike) of Puyallup and Minnie Sabedra (Albert) of Grandview; his granddaughters Alexis and Shania; and his grandson Mateo. He is also survived by his partner, Rose Marton, and granddaughters Ami, Dakota, and Makayla.

Additional survivors include his siblings Martha Garcia, Jacob Garcia, Mary Martin, Susan Garcia, Joe Garcia, and George Garcia, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Samuel’s life was defined by hard work, generosity, and a deep love for the people around him. His laughter, his stories, and the steady presence he offered will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Though he is no longer with us, the memories he created — around campfires, on long drives, at family gatherings, and in everyday moments — will remain a lasting gift.

His family takes comfort in knowing he is reunited with loved ones who passed before him and that his legacy will continue through the many lives he touched. The family will gather with loved ones for a memorial service at a later date, where they will share stories, offer prayers, and celebrate the legacy Samuel leaves behind. The family appreciates your prayers and support during this time.
