We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our father Salvador Padilla at the age of 96 on December 12, 2022. He was born on April 6, 1926, in Ayo El Chico, Jalisco, Mexico. He later moved with his family to Texas, and then in 1946 to the Outlook area of Washington State. He served in Korea as a member of the U.S. Army, 3rd Infantry Division 1951 - 1953 during the Korean War. Following his military service he moved to Sunnyside, where he lived for the remainder of his life. He married Shirley Herrera in Toppenish, Washington on November 7, 1953. This past anniversary marked their 69th year marriage.
He worked as a union laborer as part of Laborers Local 348 for many years. He also worked on the Hanford project and the construction of several dams. After he retired, he spent his time farming a small acreage of primarily produce type crops and interacting with the community, which he did until his early 90s. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sunnyside, Washington.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife Shirley Padilla, five brothers, Manuel Padilla, Jose Padilla, Ignacio Padilla, Jesse Padilla and Greg Padilla, and one sister, Maria Castro.
He is survived by one brother Ray Padilla, and three sisters Carmen Gonzalez, Angie Aguilar, and Frances Urrutia. He is also survived by three children, Salvador Padilla, Jr. (Joan), Richard Padilla, and Caroline Elliott (Kevin), along with three beloved grandchildren, Chelsie, Megan, and Jared Elliott.
A Memorial Service will be held on January 6, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Valley Hills Funeral Home - Sunnyside, 531 S. 16th St., Sunnyside, WA, with a reception to follow. Those wishing to sign Salvador’s online memorial book may do so...
