Sally Ann Murray went home to be with the Lord on October 8, 2024. Sally (aka Sarah Ann) Hindman was born in Mica, Washington on February 3, 1935, to parents Thomas and Katherine Hindman.
Her parents were farmworkers and the family traveled to various states following the work. The children attended school and worked in the fields also. Sally told the story of having attended 6 schools during one school year as the family followed the work. Sally worked at various jobs including the Granger theater before graduation. She enjoyed the many friends who would attend dances and other activities together. Sally graduated from Granger High School in 1953. She married George (Sonny) Hert in July 1954 at the Granger Presbyterian Church. They were blessed with three children: Daniel, Georganna and David. They moved to Billings, Montana to be closer to Sonny’s family and eventually returned to the Yakima Valley While working for a large ranch in the White Swan area, Sonny tragically died in a farming accident. Newly widowed, Sally moved her small family to Granger be closer to her family. She worked at the Granger bank to support her family. In November 1966 Sally married Gordon Murray. They made their home in the Granger and Zillah area. Sally worked at the Yakima Bait Company for many years prior to Gordon’s death in 2018. Sally moved to Sunnyside where she resided until her death.
Sally’s surviving family includes sons Dan (Sylvia) and Dave and daughter Georganna (George), two sisters Jeanette (Jim) Patterson and Mary Lou (Jim) Ball, two sisters-in-law Terry Hindman and Arlene Fox. Grandchildren Kendra (Brian) Newhouse, Jared (Bree) Murray, Evan, Austinn and Zach Murray, great grandchildren Brandy Murray, Alina, Mason and Kinsey Newhouse, and Mila Murray as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, sister Catherine Deaton, brothers Dick Hindman, Herman Fox, Fred Fox and Jim Hindman, Bill Hindman and both husbands.
Sally was a wonderful cook and made excellent pies. She spent many hours with her kids and extended family canning produce from the Valley. She loved gardening. Family was very important to her and she hosted many meals at her home over the years. She loved to read and enjoyed a weekly round of cards with friends from her church. Sally always commented how blessed she was with her life.
Sally’s faith in the Lord was ever-present and she was a member of the Faith Community Church in Zillah.
Services wil be held on Saturday October 19th. Graveside service will be held at 10:00 am at the Zillah cemetary and memorial serivce to follow at 11:00 am at Faith Community Church in Zillah. Valley Hills Funeral Home is in charge of arranagements.
The family has asked that memorial donations in Sally's memory be made to Sunnyside Christian School or the Union Gospel Mission.
