Ruth Emmans

October 2, 1922 — August 18, 2019

Ruth S. Emmans, passed into the presence of her Lord on the 18th of August 2019. She was born in Madrid, Iowa on October 2, 1922 to Joe and Nellie Spence. She was the youngest of five children with the given name, Kathleen Ruth Spence. Ruth graduated from Madrid High School in 1939 and attended business school afterwards. On July 10, 1943 Ruth married Dr. Paul E. Emmans. The two moved to Eldora, Iowa. It was there that Ruth gave birth to her son Paul. Following the end of WWII in 1946, the family moved to Seattle, WA, where a daughter, Kathleen, was born. Thereafter in 1946, the family settled in Spokane and raised their children including two more daughters, Mary and Ruthie, both born in Spokane. In 1967, Ruth and her family made their way back to Seattle. In the mid 70’s, after 37 years of marriage, Ruth found herself single again. It was during this time that her true resilience shined through. She obtained her real estate license and sold a few houses, then held a job as a Lab Technician at Weyerhaeuser until she retired. After retirement, Ruth called Auburn, WA home until she relocated to the Yakima Valley in 2013. Ruth was the best mother a child could ask for. Her home was always open and awaiting the arrival of her family with a hot meal prepared. Her faith in Jesus was consistent, loving, and the foundation of whom she was. Ruth is lovingly survived by her children Dr. Paul (Sue) Emmans, Kathy (John) Sester , Mary (Dr. Gordon) Froese , and Ruthie Ames; 15 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Nellie Spence, her brothers, Henry and John Spence, and also her sisters; Margaret and Merna. The family would like to thank the caring staff, especially the CNA’s at Willow Springs Care and Rehabilitation Center for the loving, compassionate care they provided for our mother the past six years. A Viewing has been scheduled for Wednesday August 28, 2019 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM with a Celebration of Life immediately following at 1:00 PM. Both will take place at Valley Hills Funeral Home Yakima Chapel (2600 Business Ln. Yakima WA 98901). Ruth’s final resting place will be with Jesus, with her body interred privately at the Wenas Cemetery in Selah.
