Russell Krumsick

June 29, 1943 — December 28, 2019

Russell Kenneth Krumsick, 76, passed away on December 28, 2019 in Sunnyside, Washington after suffering cardiac arrest on Christmas day. Russ (as he liked to be called) was born on June 29, 1943 at Prudence Nursing Home in Prosser, Washington to Ruby and Carl Krumsick. Russ was the youngest of the 3 children. Russ graduated from Sunnyside High School in 1961 and was actively involved with FFA and raising steers and sheep. After graduation, Russ was drafted into the Army March 1962 and spent 3 years in the Army and then he went into the Army Reserves and was honorable discharged November 1969. Russ had several different careers during his life, including as a TV repairman for Harris’ TV where he repaired a lot of TVs and put up many antennas up and down the valley (as he drove around in later years he would always point out antennas he put up and homes he repaired TVs at); he was a partner-owner of Western Auto in Prosser, and then he finished his full time working career with 25 years of service with Sunnyside Bleyhl’s Farm Service. Not liking full time retirement and needing to get out of the house, he went back to work part time for Bleyhl’s Petroleum as the gas cardtrol serviceman for the Prosser, Grandview, Sunnyside and Toppenish fueling stations. Russ was a quiet gentleman, didn’t like large crowds and preferred to be in the background. He would come to family events but would always make sure he got his afternoon nap in. He loved to camp with his wife Gayle and his doggies, Mitzi and Lexi (his faithful side kick companion), and to fish and hunt birds. One of his roles as a husband, father and grandfather was to make homemade ice cream for all family celebrations, no matter the time of year. On September 26, 1976, Russ and Gayle (Berg-Van Horn) were united in marriage at the Sunnyside Presbyterian Church. To this union they brought four children into this family: Gayle’s two daughters; Lori Van Horn-Harris (Jerry) and Sherri (Van Horn) Boob (Mike). Russ’s 2 children; Brenda Krumsick and Carey Krumsick (Stacey). Russ is also survived by five grandchildren: Marissa Boob (Gary Boyle), Payton Krumsick, Avery Krumsick, Taryn Krumsick and Brian Sharpe. Russ also has one great grandson Gary Michael Lane Boyle. Preceding him in death are his parents Carl and Ruby Krumsick, brother Carl Krumsick and sister-in-law Darlene Krumsick, and one baby brother who died at birth in Montana. A Celebration of Life service has been scheduled for Friday, January 3, 2020 at 11:00am at the Sunnyside Presbyterian Church (737 S. 16th Street, Sunnyside, WA). A private family and close friends graveside service will be held prior on that day at 10:00am at the Lower Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Sunnyside, Washington with Military Honors. Viewing will be on Thursday, January 2, 2020 at the Sunnyside Presbyterian Church from 3:00pm to 7:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Sunnyside Presbyterian Church in Russ’ memory. Since orange was Russ’ favorite color, if you so choose to, please wear orange to the Celebration of Life service.
