Russell Brock

February 2, 1936 — January 26, 2018

Russell Brock, 81, went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 26, 2018 at Willow Springs Care & Rehabilitation in Yakima, Washington. Russell was born on February 2, 1936 in Mabton, Washington, the son of Ray R. and Gertie (Goss) Brock. Russell attended Grandview schools, was active in 4H and participated regularly in the Yakima Valley Junior Livestock show. After finishing school in 1954, Russell began his lifelong career in the farming industry. He worked for several hop ranches in the lower Yakima Valley and for the Sunnyside Valley Irrigation District from 1954 to 1968. In 1969, Russell started working for John I. Haas, Inc. where he became manager of the Toppenish Home Farm. He remained manager until 1996 when he became Senior Manager of John I. Haas Washington Farms. Russell worked hard to develop the duties of his position and embraced the new concept of having farms share resources rather than compete for them. Russell retired from John I. Hass in 2003. Russell attended the Zillah Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed RV camping, home improvement projects and gardening. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; three sons, Russell Brock Jr. of Tri-Cities, WA, Steve Brock of Mesa, AZ and Timothy Brock (Brenda) of Atmore, AL; two stepsons Brian Buckingham (Kim) of Spanaway, WA, and Grant Buckingham (Carol) of Kirkland, WA; one stepdaughter, Brenda Marler (Dirk) of Olympia, WA; seventeen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Margaret Waggener in 2014. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 11:00 at the Zillah Nazarene Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the Yakima Union Gospel Mission.
