Ross Sockzehigh

December 25, 1942 — July 3, 2018

In my dreams and thoughts I will go and be with my people and home. Ahtanum, Washington. My grandparents raised me and I shall be with them. My name is Chamishta, also known as Ross Kenneth Sockzehigh. I was brought into this world on a cold Christmas day in 1942 to Oscar Kenneth Sockzehigh and Delores Smiscon. My paternal grandparents are Johnny Paahcockka Cassiat George Sockzehigh and Agnes Mamoo-sen-way Homer. My maternal grandparents are Edwin and Frances Smiscon. I pledged my life to my great-great grandmother, Pi-tun-way, “Susie Williams,” since she saved my life as a boy while I played on or near Celilo Falls. I travel on to join my wife Beatrice Sockzehigh and leave behind my family and best friend, Wanda Sampson. I also join my sisters Sally Ann and Nina as well as my grandson Noah. Those left behind are my brothers and sisters: Delilah, David, Loretta, Chester, Syldia, Felicia and Phillip; my children Roxann and Darwin (Tess); nieces and nephew, Jeanna, Tina, Leo, and Camille (Michael); my grandchildren, DJ, Joseph, Pamela (Jorge), Andraya, Tyrell, Desirae, Austin, Oscar, Triselle and Richard Ross. Thank you to those that joined me for my final ride to my home in Toppenish Creek. I was there July 5th for Services and taken for my last ride to Ahtanum to be reunited with my grandparents at the Wahlakite Cemetery July 6. My family returned to my home to conclude services with the support of many respected friends. When you sip a cup of coffee, think of me and say hello.
