Rosellen Charlotte (Harris) Eaton, lifelong servant of our Lord and servant to the sick, needy and imprisoned, passed away on December 12, 2014 at the Yakima Hospice Clinic, Cottage in the Meadow.
Rose was the youngest of nine siblings, born to Guy Benjamine Harris and Etta Jeannetta Fearheller Harris on April 30, 1931 in Idaho Falls, Idaho where she lived in her early years. She graduated from high school in 1949 at Gem State Academy in Caldwell Idaho. The following year Rose registered as a nursing student at Walla Walla College and graduated from there in 1954.
She started her 50 year nursing career at the VA hospital in Portland, Oregon. During her tenure there she helped set up the Hospice unit at the Vancouver VA Community Living Center. She retired from Government nursing service in 1988.
Rose and her husband, E. Wayne Eaton, moved to Merritt Island, Florida to be near family. She initiated her second phase of nursing service there and was a hospice nurse until she retired at the age of 73.
As a lifelong member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Rose served the sick, elderly, youth, adults, and church and family members in a variety of ways. She also served the imprisoned through the Church sponsored Prison Ministries program. Her membership in Yakima has been the 35th Avenue Seventh Day Adventist Church. Rose’s lifelong church services were extensive, invaluable and will be sorely missed.
Rose was predeceased by seven of her eight siblings and by her husband, Wayne Eaton. She is survived by her brother, LeRoy Steven Harris of Merritt Island, Florida, her step children, Greg W. Eaton of Jacksonville, Oregon, Michele (Eaton) Alexander of Yakima, Toni (Eaton) Jensen of Sun River, Oregon, four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Rosellen Charlotte Harris Eaton will be laid to rest next to her honored and decorated Second World War Veteran husband, E. Wayne Eaton, at Tahoma National Military Cemetery in Kent, Washington.
