Rose Roberta (Fann) Hickman
May 3, 1941, Kittitas, WA - Feb. 1, 2016, Yakima, WA
Sweet and comforting, like eating her soft peanut butter cookies or smelling her warm homemade rolls. Lovely and kind, like watching her bottle feed stray newborn kittens. Good, like studying bible scriptures every night before bed. Funny, like finding her bobby pins left in her wake. Strong, like her never letting anyone see her cry. Beautiful, like listening to her sing a song. Patient, like watching her raise five children, 13 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Rose was as good as people come, and she will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Rose had many talents and hobbies, including sewing; shopping; painting; gardening; doll collecting; and cooking and baking. She loved chocolate, coffee, and the occasional blended margarita. She also liked frosted animal cookies and big bags of clearance candy. Rose enjoyed swimming in her pool, fishing, and dancing. She liked taking pictures and had thousands of photos of her loved ones. Rose had a classy style and fashionable wardrobe. She liked to travel and loved music. Elvis was a favorite, but she equally enjoyed watching her grandsons sing and play their musical instruments. She was a good listener, making time for anyone who had a need. She had a great, quirky sense of humor. She lived life in the eyes of Jehovah God and his book of scriptures, and enjoyed worshiping with the congregation. She truly loved all of God’s creations, but her children and grandchildren were her life.
Rose was born and raised in Kittitas, WA. She was the youngest of six children. Her surviving siblings are Mary Hartze and Roy Fann. Rose had fond memories of her childhood and upbringing on the family farm. She loved riding horses and singing and playing her guitar in The Fann Family Band. She loved her lifelong friends Marvel Moe-Gardner, Ellinor Larsen-Montgomery, and Marlene Isom-Mulch like they were her sisters.
Rose married at 18 years old, and spent over 40 years of her life as a faithful, devoted wife. Rose had five children: Deborah (Paul) Napolitano, Ronald (aka Jamie) Hickman, Judith Devall; Rebecca (Paul) Brown, and Amanda (Andrew) Sullivan. Rose’s mission in life was to raise children that grew up to be good people. And she succeeded. Rose’s mothering also extended to her nephews, nieces, and grandchildren (Jacob, Andrew, John, Brett, Jacquelyn, Zachary, Vincent, Anthony, James, Darin, Kaitlyn, Anderson, and Alexander). While Rose spent most of her adult life as a stay-at-home mother, she worked occasionally as a waitress, secretary, and seamstress.
Rose was her amazing, beautiful, clever, witty self, right until the end. During her last month of life, Rose’s children never left her side. Countless friends and family also visited her. Rose’s family would like to thank everyone who made the time to visit and pray with her in her time of need. It was truly amazing to witness the outpouring of love, friendship, and respect for this special woman, and to see the positive impact she had on the world. Although she is gone, her love and beauty will live forever in the lives of those who knew her.
