Obituary

Roger Wayne Schrotenboer passed away on February 12, 2026 and found rest in the Lord after a 20+ year-long journey with Parkinson's Disease. His servant heart and hard-working, kind demeanor will be remembered by his family and friends.

Born in Yakima, WA on March 23, 1954 to Harold and Thelma (Oord) Schrotenboer, he was the third of five children, and the only boy in the family. Growing up on a farm in Zillah, WA instilled in him his hard-working spirit and resourcefulness. He enjoyed being outside and working with his hands from a young age. He attended Sunnyside Christian School through 8th grade and graduated from Zillah High School in 1972. He was an active member of FFA and enjoyed raising and showing pigs. He continued his education at Perry Technical Institute, where he became an automotive mechanic and worked as a Ford mechanic for several years.

On May 29, 1982 he married Deb Cserepes. They established their first home in Zillah. In the spring of 1985, Roger fulfilled his dream of doing full time farming when they bought an orchard on Cherry Hill in Granger. As a farmer in Granger, he soon became a board member for the Granger Irrigation District, and served on the board for several years. While living on Cherry Hill, the family grew with the birth of daughters Jessica and then Laura. The girls fondly recall many happy memories on the farm, including 4-wheeler and tractor rides with dad.

In 2006, the family sold the farm and moved to Sunnyside to be closer to where Roger and Deb both worked at Sunnyside Christian School. Deb was a teacher and Roger was now the maintenance supervisor. This job was a perfect fit for Roger. It encompassed two of his passions, working with his hands and helping others. A phrase often used was, "If Roger can't fix it, it can't be fixed."

Roger was a lifelong member of the Faith Community Church in Zillah, WA. It was here he was baptized, made a profession of faith, and cultivated his love for the Lord. He served on the church council and spent many years volunteering as a youth group leader alongside his wife, Deb.

One thing Roger loved was family. Whether it was enjoying time on the farm with his sisters, adventures with his cousins, spending time at home with his wife and kids, being jumped on by his nephews, camping trips at Mayfield Lake or family gatherings, he loved spending time with his immediate and extended family, and he will be dearly missed by them.

Roger was preceded in death by his father, Harold Schrotenboer, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Mike and Jean Cserepes, his brothers-in-law Rick Saathoff, Tom Cserepes, and Steve Cserepes, and sisters-in-law Jan Henderson and Wendy Cserepes. Roger is survived by his wife Deb Schrotenboer, his mother, Thelma Schrotenboer, his children Jessica (Jonah) Davies and Laura (Chance) Cunningham, his grandchildren Allison, Emily, Kiley, and Ella, his siblings Judy (Jim) Rip, Darlene (Dale) Soost, Debbie (Dave) Brumfield, and Karla Saathoff, his in-laws Jerry Cserepes, Debbie Cserepes, Dave (Marilou) Cserepes, Merv Henderson, Carolyn Enbusk, Sue (Martin) Beisley, Cheryl (Tracy) Hansen, and numerous nephews and nieces.
