Robert "Joe" Sandoval passed early Sunday morning after succumbing to cancer. He is survived by his siblings Inez Sandoval, Rose Sandoval, Ginger Perry, Richard Sandoval, and Rueben Sandoval. He is preceded in death by his parents Jose and Lottie Sandoval, his siblings Josephine Sandoval, Agnes Eyle, and Lawrence Sam. Robert was born in Yakima, WA and spent his childhood in the Yakima Valley. His family relocated to Madera, CA where he graduated from Madera High. After a few years of college Robert worked as a lineman for the Sante Fe railroad and also worked for the Madera movie theater. Working at the theater was a joy for Robert there he was able to indulge in his love of movies and snacks. In 1980 Robert moved back to the Yakima Valley with his mother after his father's death. Robert suffered from poor health for several years due to diabetes, a seizure disorder, and alcoholism. After an illness Robert became a resident of The Toppenish Rehabilitation Center. There he began to live a healthier lifestyle. His health improved enough to move to an adult family home. He was most recently cared for by Jennifer and Dorthy Edgerly, and his niece Donna Columcus who provided unlimited support. In his later years Robert enjoyed daily walks, reading the paper, and eating out. Robert was proud to have stopped drinking and to no longer be considered diabetic.
