Robert Greene

February 11, 1950 — October 15, 2023

Robert M. “Bob” Greene, 73 of Wapato, WA, peacefully passed away on Sunday October 15, 2023, at Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Bob was born in Yakima, Washington February 11, 1950, to Earl O. and Margaret (Cross) Greene of Selah. Bob attended school in Selah and graduated with the class of 1968. During high school Bob earned letters in track, wrestling, and FFA. Bob worked in the family orchard during the summer, while keeping a part-time job at Kings Row Drive In. After high school, Bob began what would become a 30 plus year career in the fruit industry, starting at the Larsen Fruit Company packing facility in Selah. In 1972 Bob partnered with his father leasing an orchard on Clark Road in Wapato, which they purchased the following year. After his father retired, Bob purchased the operation and started Greene Ranch which he managed until 2012, when he sold it to Yakima Fruit and Cold Storage. Throughout his time in the beautiful lower valley, Bob developed a number of other interests – foremost among them was golf. Bob was a longtime member of the Mount Adams Country Club in Toppenish where he could be found in the early hours most mornings and claimed that the only time, he didn’t play at least nine holes was when it snowed. Bob made 9 hole-in-ones on various courses and was a two-time club champion at Mount Adams. He also played in many tournaments and Pro-Am’s throughout the Yakima Valley and beyond. He traveled throughout the United States and Mexico, on his golf adventures. He shared his passion with his brothers George and Earl, as well as his nephew Michael. NASCAR became another one of Bob’s avid interests. He traveled to California, Arizona, and Bristol, Tennessee to watch the races. Bob was a devoted son, brother, and uncle to his five nieces and nephews. He never missed a holiday or family function, always bringing his famous coleslaw and/or apple pie. He enjoyed spending time with family at his cabins in Long Beach and Lake Cle Elum. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Margaret Greene, and brothers Earl W. Greene and Thomas Greene. He is survived by his brother George W. (Teri) Greene of Roslyn, WA, brother John R. Greene of Ashland, OR, sister Catherine Greene of Issaquah, WA, and sister Patricia A. Greene of Yakima, WA. Sister-in-law Penny Hsu of Seattle, nieces Tiffany Greene, Kelsey (Brandon) Snyder, and Jennifer Walker. Nephews Jason Greene and Michael Greene, great niece Violet Greene and great nephew Noah Walker.
