Richard Todd Bishop (Rick) was born on December 14, 1962 and passed away suddenly on June 11th, 2023. He is now with the Lord he believed in. Rick was born in The Dalles, OR to Richard L. Bishop and Faye (Thompson) Bishop. He was the 2nd youngest of five children. In 1973, the family moved to Yakima where he attended Apple Valley School, then moved to Gleed, where he attended Naches schools. He enlisted in the US Army in 1982, and was proud of being a veteran and serving his country.
Rick especially loved his favorite niece, Jennifer. She was his "goonie, goo, goo", and he was always there for her, making her laugh, taking care of her, and doting on her.
Rick always had a hobby or two going at the same time. He loved cooking and could quickly whip up a terrific meal. He dabbled in woodworking, including making wooden pens, jewelry boxes, and doing beautiful scroll work. Rick was very creative with his hands and enjoyed making all kinds of crafts using parachute cord. He loved camping and attending the many family reunions, always eager to pitch in.
Throughout his life, Rick worked for various grocery stores in Yakima and the Tri-Cities including Fred Meyer, Winco, and most recently at Safeway as a meat cutter.
Though not a rich man, he was very generous and thoughtful, always thinking of others, helping his co-workers, and remembering those he cared for, wanting to make everyone happy. He had this adorable impish grin, making you wonder what he was up to next. While he seemed to have more challenges than most, we were always there for him and loved him unconditionally.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard L. Bishop, his grandparents, Paul and Emma Thompson, and his step-father, John F. Kohler. He leaves behind his immediate, loving family including his mother, Faye Bishop-Kohler, his siblings, Jon, Lauri Baird (Alan), Mike (Lueta), Steve (Becky), special niece, Jennifer Bishop, and many other nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and numerous friends.
We are all so proud of Rick for thinking of others. He not only gave in life, but in death, giving the gift of sight and helping burn victims by being an organ donor. Now we honor him by letting go of the sadness and embracing the joy of having had him in our lives.
Please join us for a Celebration of Life of Rick's to be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church (14 N 48th Ave, Yakima, WA). A gathering and luncheon will follow immediately after the service.
