Regina Brown

Regina Lela Brown, “Wa-tyn-in-myé”, was born on May 23, 1968 in Toppenish WA. to Charles Brown (Crow) and Jean Wahchumwah (Yakama). She was an enrolled member of the Yakama Nation and a descendant of the Crow Nation. She departed this life on Thursday, May 19, 2022 in the comfort of the Cottage In The Meadow in Yakima, WA. Regina dedicated her life to being a servant of God and upheld this role through many endeavors in her life. She worked for the Yakama Nation Maternal and Children Health (MCH) program for over 31 years as a Program Manager where she assured mothers, infants, children and their families would receive quality health services and live safe, healthy lives. She also served as a Secretary and Prayer Warrior to the White Swan Independent Shaker Church where she always assured that the church was in operational order and festivities were planned for every holiday. Regina’s love for people and caring for them was endless; she was the most selfless, generous, giving, compassionate and caring person you could ever know. Except, when Russell Wilson left the Seahawks - she was still heartbroken and upset that he left her favorite team and would never forgive him for deserting her. Regina was a wonderful seamstress and beader. God created her into a virtuous woman who was gifted and talented in making wing dresses, ribbon shirts and her famous pillows that captured everyone’s eyes. In her younger years, she was a member of the Satus Longhouse where she followed in the footsteps of her late Grandmother, Telix (Squeoch) Wahchumwah, and Mother, Jean Wahchumwah’s traditional teachings. She loved picking huckleberries and canning them for ceremonial purposes. Regina also loved to dance, as a Fancy Dancer and Line Dancer. Her love for Garth Brooks and Country music influenced her to become a part of the “The Ice Breakers” line dancing group who performed variously throughout the Yakima Valley. She had a love for traveling and exploring nature; she always talked about how California was her favorite place to visit - especially Disneyland. Regina is survived by her common-law Spouse, Stanley Andy, who she was with for over 17 years. Her brother Elden (Melissa) Brown and sisters Cheryl (Raymond) Phillips, Debbie Brown and Colleen Brown, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and grand nieces/nephews. She is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents James and Virginia (Little Light) Brown, maternal grandparents Elow and Telix (Squeoch) Wahchumwah, father Charles Brown and mother Jean Wahchumwah. Dressing services will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at the White Swan Independent Shaker Church, starting at 3 pm. Shaker services, wáashat services and meals will follow throughout the weekend. We will begin her final journey home on Monday, May 23, 2022 at sunrise, where she will be laid to rest alongside her grandmother and mother at Beaver Cemetery.
