Raymond E. Ortiz

Raymond E. Ortiz, age 86, passed away peacefully at his home on January 6, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Ray was born on April 9, 1939, in Harding, Montana, to Jesus Sr. and Carmen Ortiz. In 1942, his family relocated to Wapato, Washington, where Ray lay his roots for his family.

Ray attended Wapato High School, where he formed many lasting friendships. Even though Ray was soft-spoken and extremely shy in 1958 he met the love of his life, Diane, at a dance. They were married on March 23, 1960, and shared a devoted marriage built on love, faith, and family. Together they raised three children: Theresa, Tracy, and Ray Jr.

Ray worked for Inland Fruit, Washington Beef, and later retired from the City of Wapato after many years of dedicated service. In retirement, he found his greatest joy in spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with his bodyguard, Licorice. Ray enjoyed camping, fishing, riding his Harley, cruising his 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge, boxing, running marathons, and attending his grandchildren sports events. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family.

Ray is survived by his beloved wife, Diane Ortiz (Maltos); his children Theresa Wallace, Tracy Ortiz (Jim), and Ray Ortiz Jr.; his grandchildren Sharday Ortiz, Xochi Garcia, Chanel Peters (Kameron), Shelby Gurule (Andre), and Chase Wallace; and his cherished Angels Hailey, Charissa, Brissa, Harlee, Kyler, Jaxten, and Avianna; Sister Christina, Brothers Pat, Jesus Jr, and Charles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Carmen Ortiz; his brothers Joe and Richard; his sister Rita; and his grandson Adam.

The family extends their sincere gratitude to Lilia, Harley, Lindsie, and Greg for the compassionate care and support they provided to Ray and his family. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, gentle spirit, and unwavering love for those closest to him.
