Ray J Newman, 72, was born in Vernonia, OR on March 18, 1945 and passed away at Cottage in the Meadow on November 18, 2017. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Ray J and Isa Brooks Newman, his brother’s Duane Newman and Jerry Newman, and sister Eloise Newman. He is survived by his sister’s Betty Anderson, Loretta Steward, and Thelma Campbell and also his brother, David Newman. Ray is survived by his close friends, the Clark Family and the Hebner family. Ray’s family moved up to the State of Washington when he was a young boy and he picked asparagus in the fields of the lower Yakima Valley. Ray graduated from Granger High School and was among the top in his class. He retired as a Surveyor / Party Chief from the Washington State Department of Transportation in his late 40’s. Ray was a trivia buff, enjoyed riding motorcycles cross country and also rode his quad frequently on the Selah/Yakima hill down to Coyote Canyon. In the summer Ray would swim the length of his pool under water with only one breath. He enjoyed playing cribbage with his friends, George & Lee. Ray will be missed by all who knew him.
