Randolyn (Randy) Kilpatrick of Cowiche, Washington passed away peacefully with family at her side on September 21, 2023. She was 99 years old.
Randolyn was born the first of 12 children to Charles and Lillian Courtney in Winslow Arkansas on May 7, 1924. She lived and worked on the family homestead until age 18 when she met and married James (Jack) Kilpatrick on May 9, 1942. In their early years they sang western and gospel music in small radio stations in and around Arkansas. During that time their first son James was born. In 1945 along with their firstborn she boarded a steam train to follow husband Jack who had moved to work in the apple orchards of Washington state. She worked hard alongside husband Jack while raising a growing family of three more sons, Larry, Jerry, and Roger and a daughter, Janet.
Randolyn, for many years, worked about every job there is in running an orchard. Her least favorite job was smudging. She worked as a cook and cashier in the cafeteria at Valley Memorial Hospital in Yakima and loved driving her 1965 Mustang to work. She then worked for Strand’s warehouse packing apples until she retired in order to care for husband Jack during his last days.
Randolyn had many interests and hobbies. She loved her flowers and was a gardener. She was an avid canner. She did all kinds of handwork, crocheting, knitting, sewing and quilting. She kept family and friends supplied with knitted potholders and dish cloths all the way to the end of her life.
Randolyn is survived by 2 siblings, John Courtney, Jeanie Hodges, her children James Kilpatrick (Spouse Meredith), Larry Kilpatrick (Spouse Karen), Jerry Kilpatrick (Spouse Cindy), Roger Kilpatrick (Spouse Theresa), Janet Kilpatrick, (S/O Thomas Lane), many grand and great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Randolyn was preceded in death by her husband Jack, her parents, nine of her siblings, three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
