Ramiro Martinez Beato, 79, was called to his eternal rest on April 2, 2026, Holy Thursday, surrounded by the love and prayers of his family.
Ramiro was born on July 3, 1946, in Tobes y Rahedo, Spain, the first of four children born to Daniel Martinez Arnáiz and Nicolasa Beato Martinez. He learned the value of hard work from an early age. As a child, Ramiro was unable to pursue a formal education, as he helped support his family during the “years of hunger” following the Spanish Civil War. In his younger years, he found joy in serving as an altar boy at his hometown church in Tobes and later took pride in his service in the Spanish military.
In 1971, Ramiro journeyed to the United States in search of economic opportunity and began working as a sheep herder for the Hislop Sheep Company. In 1977, Ramiro met and later married his wife, Lupe Martinez (Garza), of Toppenish. They settled on 30 acres in Wapato and had two children, Daniel Martinez and Estefania Grajeda, whom Ramiro instilled with his work ethic.
Ramiro worked tirelessly as a farmer, rancher, alfalfa grower, and leafcutter bee producer. In his later years, Ramiro found joy in sharing time with his grandchildren, who brought him endless joy and filled his life with love, playing cards with them and taking them to see his farm animals, as well as visiting friends, attending mass, and tending to his garden.
Ramiro is survived by his wife, Lupe Martinez; his son, Daniel Martinez (Maricela); his daughter, Estefania Grajeda (Ryan); his stepsons, Johnny Weaver (Lisa) and Jimmy Phillips; his grandchildren, Natalie, Hailey, Ronin, Daniel Jr., and Laurel; and his sisters, Adela Martinez Beato, Sor Josefina Martinez Beato, and Crisanta Martinez Beato.
Ramiro lived a life of faith, hard work, and devotion to his family. His example will continue to inspire those who knew him. He will be remembered for his kindness, vibrant Spanish spirit, always full of life, laughter, and a love of good company. We entrust him to the mercy of God and take comfort in His promise of eternal life: “Well done, good and faithful servant.” (Matthew 25:23)
