Rachel L. Hendricks, age 88, died Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Quail Hollow Memory Care in Richland, WA, of heart failure. She was born July 8, 1925, in Anadarko, OK, to John and Bessie Brush. The family moved to Washington and bought a small farm. She graduated from Zillah High School class of 1944. Rachel worked in the fields in her younger years and on her parents’ farm. She married Glen Hendricks on June 4, 1944 living in Zillah after his death in 1990, then moved to Yakima for several years. She later worked for Stadelman Fruit warehouse in Zillah, Ben Franklin store and Toppenish Memorial Hospital in Toppenish, and Dr. Doornick’s office in Wapato. She and Glen belonged to the Old Time Fiddlers, she also belonged to the Zillah Garden Club, Zillah Senior Citizen’s Club and helped make decorations for the Zillah community float for several years. Survived by daughters, Beverly Mydland of Silverdale, WA, Sharon (Lloyd) Smith of Zillah, WA, and Dolores (Cookie) Colby of Yakima, WA, and brother Lee (Dee) Brush of Hermiston, OR. She is also survived by grandchildren Michelle (Dan) Denchel of Grandview,WA, Pam Kirkpatrick of Kennewick, WA, and Eric (Caryn)Mydland of Playa delRey, CA., Scott Smith of Bonny Lake, WA, Craig (Kristina) Smith of Scottsdale, AZ, Kristi Austin of Moxee, WA, Candy Ermey of Sultan, WA, Donnie (Cassie) Nugent of Zillah, WA. Also 17 great grandchildren: Chris, Nick and Matthew Denchel, Kelsey and Kyler Kirkpatrick, Joshua Mydland, Olivia and Sophia Smith, Brittany Smith (Brian) Andrews, Addison and Avery Austin, Megan, Chris and Cole Ermey, Tia, Sierra, and Autumn Nugent. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four of her siblings, and one great grandson. Thanks and appreciation goes to her granddaughter and caregiver, Pam Kirkpatrick of Kennewick, Quail Hollow Memory Care of Richland, and Chaplaincy Hospice of Richland. No services will be held. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah is in care of the arrangements.
