Phyllis C. Whitmire age 89, of Yakima, WA passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at The Cottage in the Meadow. Phyllis was born July 17, 1926 in Ava, Missouri the third of five daughters to Willis and Ada Evans Hensley. At a young age the family left Missouri and moved to Zillah, WA where Willis took a job with the irrigation district.
After World War II she met and married Joseph Craig and they moved back to Missouri to the Craig family farm. She had three children Dennis, Judy and Bobby. In 1965 Phyllis and the children moved back to the Yakima Valley where she worked well into her 70’s and finally retired. Phyllis loved to dance, go camping, and was a very talented seamstress, and quilt maker. Everyone who saw her work wanted one of her quilts, or would ask her to make them something.
Phyllis is survived by her children Judy Brulotte, and Bobby Craig, her sisters, Pauline Frost, Gertrude Delp, and Ada Mae White, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and their children. Preceding her in death were her parents Willis and Ada Hensley, a son Dennis E. Craig, a sister Anna Leah Delp and a great granddaughter Anna Marie Brulotte.
Viewing will be held on Saturday July 25, 2015 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM with services following at 2:00 PM until 2:30 PM at Valley Hills Funeral Home, Zillah WA, followed by a reception at the Toppenish Eagles. A private burial is scheduled for a later date at the Zillah Cemetery.
