Phillip Acob

January 31, 1957 — September 5, 2014

Our beloved brother, son, father, uncle, and grandfather is at peace on September 5, 2014 at the age of 57. He passed away at the Cottage in the Meadows in Yakima, Washington and was continuously surrounded by his family during his short battle with cancer. The family looks forward to being reunited again as a family, safe in the arms of Jesus. Phillip was born in Toppenish on January 31, 1957 to Jose G. Acob Sr. and Martha (Martina) Acob (Roman Garcia). He was the fourth of five children, and is survived by his two sisters; Josephine (Daryl) Acob-Campbell of Kennewick and Barbara (Robert) Acob Hernandez of Yakima, and two brothers; Jose Acob, Jr. (Carol) of West Pasco and Anthony Acob of Yakima. Phillip was blessed to have three daughters: Leticia Lucio of Florida, Angela Acob of Tacoma, and Nydesta Gouley of Skokomish; five grandchildren: Tiauna, Kahee-loosh and Lucky Spirit-Hawk Bill of Tacoma and Tyra and Gavino “Tiger” Tinaza of Skokomish. He was also blessed to have a large and very loving extended family of cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Phillip always enjoyed family dinners and get-togethers. He loved playing with and teasing his younger nieces and nephews. He would keep a watchful eye on them whenever he was with them, even when they grew up to be adults! Phillip was very proud of his daughters and grandchildren. They lived away, but were always close to his heart and he spoke of them often. Phillip fought a hard battle to the end surrounded with love from his family. One recent family memory of Phillip occurred when his brother, Jose, was playing his guitar at the hospice center and Phillip somehow found the strength to whisper out a few words from the song Jose was playing called A Time for Us (the theme song from "Romeo and Juliet"). The nurses said, “He was a strong willed man.” We will miss his presence and the craziness that came with him! Phillip was preceded in death by his mother. His last wish was to be able to rest with his mother and that wish has been granted by his caring family and his loving nieces and nephews. A sincere thank you to those who took the time to send cards and flowers, call, or personally visit Phillip during his illness; to the kind and understanding staff of the Cottage in the Meadows; and to the Valley Hills Funeral Home. For those who wish to pay their last respects, the viewing will be on Thursday, September 11, 2014 from 1:00 until 2:00 PM and the funeral will begin at 2:00 PM at the All Nations Center, located at 3020 Ashue Rd in Wapato, Washington. Burial will immediately follow at the Reservation Community Memorial Park Cemetery in Wapato where Phillip will begin his eternal rest with the Lord. A reception honoring Phillip’s memory will be held as soon as the family returns from the cemetery back at the All Nations Center.
