Patrick Michael Goudy, Sr.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Patrick Michael Goudy Sr., aged 74, who left us following an illness. He was born in The Dalles, Oregon, to Mathew Goudy and Nancy WakWak.

His family members were lifelong fishers of the Columbia River since time immemorial; following the inundation of the river, they relocated to Toppenish. Pat was a lifetime resident and enrolled member of the Yakama Nation. In his early years, Pat was an exceptionally hard worker who gained expertise working at YN Fiber Tech, where he specialized in fiberglass manufacturing and working on boats.

Pat took deep pride in his non-treaty heritage, tracing his maternal lineage directly to Chief Kamiakun. His extended family includes the Goudy, WakWak, Logie, Telekish, Smartlowit, and Johnson lines. Committed to traditional ways of life, Pat was an active, dedicated, and lifelong fisherman of the Colombia River. He deeply loved his life on the river; it was in his blood, and season by season, the water was his peace. Pat was saved at the Independent Shaker Church, which he fully believed in his heart to be his home church, crediting it with setting him free by our Creator. He also deeply believed in the Waashut religion, the traditional language, and the traditional songs. These remained his way of belief throughout his life and his approach to religion was entirely dedicated.

A graduate of Yakima Valley Community College, Pat worked tirelessly for 25 years for the Yakama Nation, eventually earning a pin for his 25 years of service. He spent his early career as a Community Health Representative. During this time, he was appointed as the Youth Activities Program Manager, which later developed into the L.I.S.T.E.N program.

He dedicated 20+ years specifically to serving local youth, establishing the youth council and organizing a variety of activities that combined sports, education, tradition, and nature into one shared purpose. Pat made it his mission to encourage young people to show deep respect, remain drug and alcohol free, and learn to lead so that they could successfully govern the future of the community. As a dedicated coach, he spent many years leading young people in sports and boxing until his health would no longer permit it. His core basketball team was the Wapenish Eagles, a legendary team that featured his own sons, close family members, and friends.

Under his leadership, the Eagles became an unforgettable part of local basketball history, leaving behind beautiful, lasting memories with countless families. Later, he coached and led the YN Lady Miracles, a force to be reckon with, winning national titles. Through his coaching and youth leadership, he taught generations of children how to compete, lead and live a healthy lifestyle within their communities. Pat never seemed to take a still moment and was always occupied. He loved his family deeply and was a highly talented traditional dancer, artist, and drummer. Through his passions, he became a beloved mentor to many.

Pat married his wife, Sharon, whom he met when he was 14 years old; they shared 56 years of marriage. He is survived by his four children: Sean "Schroeder" (Melinda), Pat Jr. "Thumper," Gerrod "Weemwitit", and kwasa "Krista" (Tahvio); 12 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by two sisters, as well as many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and adopted kin. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, two brothers, and one granddaughter.

Pat loved to coach, fish, be on the water, drum, dance, and share in traditional music, but above all, he loved to be surrounded by his family. He was a natural caregiver who always showed his deep love through direct action rather than words. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a fierce, fearless, brave, passionate, loving, and strong man. atawishamash~ PALOUSEPROUD

Funeral Services: Wednesday, 07/29/2026 at 11:00 A.M. Dressing service at the Wapato Valley Hills Funeral Home; taken to the Toppenish Community Center; final service Thursday, 07/30/ 2026 at 8:00 A.M.; and Burial at the Umtuch Logie Cemetery.
