Oren Callihan

October 24, 1925 — January 3, 2020

OREN CARR CALLIHAN October 21, 1925- January 3, 2020 Oren was born in Limon, Colorado to Drua C. and Ruby Callihan. He joined sister Ruth, brother Melvin, 15 months after Oren was born brother Loren joined the family. He passed away peacefully at 12:43 A.M. on January 3rd at Cottage in the Meadow with his son-in-law, Rick, by his side. Not only did the dementia ravage his body, his heart was broken when mom passed away on July 17, 2019. At a young age the family moved to Washington state, living in the Gleed area, eventually settling on 40 acres in rural Wapato. The 4 kids worked alongside their dad on the dairy while their mom worked as a R.N. in Yakima. Oren and Lorayne were married November 17th, 1950. Due to mom’s death in July they as a couple didn’t get the opportunity to celebrate their 69th..., but Colleen and Rick saw to it by taking dad to Trout Lodge for dinner, mom was there in spirit. Their son Lloyd joined them on April 1953, Colleen followed in January of 1956. Growing up dad would take Lloyd and myself to the Yakima Speedway, great fun and late nights!! After selling pesky dairy cows, Oren began his 30+ year employment with Mt. Adams School District as a custodian and bus driver. Wasn’t always beneficial having a parent who worked for the school, as Lloyd and I couldn’t get away with anything!! Dad possessed a strong work ethic which he instilled in his kids. Dad was a volunteer firefighter for the Brownstown fire department for several years, he hung up the fire gear in 1991. Oren was one of 2,000 volunteers that helped construct the McGuire Park playground located on the Yakima Greenway. Oren loved being a grandpa and great grandpa, oh those kiddos could get away with anything. Per his request, dad lived the last 15 weeks of his life with Colleen and Rick at their home in the Gleed area. It was an honor and privilege to have dad with us, to provide him the care that he needed. Oren is survived by his daughter Colleen (Rick) Foreman, his grandsons: Richard Andrew (Erin) Foreman, John Callihan, granddaughter: Sarah (Jeff) Rock, three great grandsons: Connor and Colin Callihan and Nathan Rock, several nieces and nephews and daughter-in-law Debbie. Oren is preceded in death by his wife Lorayne of 68 years, his son Lloyd, his brothers Melvin and Loren and sister Ruth and his parents Drua Carr and Ruby. Per dad’s request, a graveside is planned for Friday April 3rd, 2020 at 3:00 P.M. at Terrace Heights Memorial Park. Special thanks to Dr. Alexander Ho (Cornerstone Medical), Memorial Home Care, and Cottage in the Meadow for the care and compassion you bestowed upon my dad. Memorials may be made to either Naches Lions Club or People for People, specifically Meals on Wheels.
