O’dell Bowers was born on Sept 28th, 1927 to William and Josephine (Wilkes) Bowers in Springdale, AR. He passed away and into the Lord’s arms on Dec 12, 2013 with his son Danny and his Shepherd’s Gate family by his side. O’dell served in the army and was honorably discharged in 1947. Afterwards he came back to Selah where he met the love of his life, Colleen McCarthy. They were married in 1947 and made their home in Yakima and then Selah. He worked as a Selah Police Officer in 1958 and also drove Selah School bus where he installed a car radio in his bus. He drove the only bus with music in it and the kids loved it…and him. He went on to drive truck for Pepsi Noel Canning. That became his passion and he was great at it. O’dell’s family came first to him and he always worked hard to take care of them. Dad was a great husband and a very special father. He loved fishing, riding bikes and being with his family. Dad never went anywhere without a smile on his face and a joke or story to tell. He had many friends and loved to have coffee and breakfast with the boys at the T&T in Selah. He was a member of the VFW, Selah Elks and the American Legion. O’dell is preceded in death by his wife Coleen, his mother and father and 11 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his two sons, Danny and wife Patty Bowers of Selah, Doug and wife Diane Bowers of Selah and his daughter Pamela Bowers of Woodinville, WA. He also has 4 grandchildren Christopher Bowers (Selah), Austin and his wife Katie Bowers and their daughter Lilah (Selah), Jessica Bowers (Selah) and Nicole Bowers and her children Deja and Jake (Spokane)
The Bowers family would like to thank Debbie and Steve Nordberg (owners) of Shepherd’s Gate Adult Family Home and all of the loving staff who took care of all of Dad’s needs Vivian, Rachel, Mariza, Carmela and Alejandra. May God bless you all. Finally, we want to thank his very close friend Ike Wilson.
