Our mom, Nydia Bridges, of Sunnyside, passed away at Cottage in the Meadow on June 28, 2022 at the age of 91.
Mom was born November 8, 1930 in Vevay, Indiana. She was the 3rd child of Leland and Mildred (Keal) Stoops. At a young age the Stoops family moved to Washington State, eventually settling in Toppenish, where mom spent her youth, until her marriage.
The first of March, 1950, mom met our dad, Bill Bridges, just out of the Navy, at a now non-existent ice skating rink in Yakima. The proverbial “love at first sight” occurred. There was a whirlwind romance and were married 6 weeks later on April 16, 1950 in Toppenish.
This “love at first sight” lasted 69 years until our dad’s death in 2019. During those 69 years mom and dad travelled extensively, traveling from coast to coast many times. They both had so many stories of their adventures, traveling mostly on backroads in order to see the country.
Mom and dad had 4 children; Terrie (Williard) Gipson and Alan of Sunnyside, Connie (Kouski) O’Dell and Virgil of So. Chesterfield, VA, Randy Bridges of Phoenix, AZ and Tammie Bridges of Canal Winchester, OH. Besides us kids, mom is also survived by 3 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. At mom’s request there will be no service. A private burial will be held at a later date. Please visit www.Valleyhillsfh.com to share a memory or condolence with the family.
